Generating Reports from your Horse Records
An important consideration for your next horse record keeping process is to determine how flexible the reporting options are. How much time and effort is needed to create a report of horses you have, or ones you have for sale, or that someone is coming to look at?
With the paper method, generating neat and professional reports is a major and time consuming task considering the records are handwritten and that you must gather the records you need on the report.
With the spreadsheet method, it is easier to create organized report formats as compared to paper, but you'll need to "copy and paste" records from the records tab onto the report. Spreadsheets do not offer a way to set filters for the reports, which would be a way to set a criteria and only have records that meet that criteria appear on the report (such as horses born during a certain date range, only mares that are bred, etc)
With a horse software program, quality reports can be quickly printed or emailed while saving you time and effort. In addition, there are many flexible options for the reports, including sorting (such as youngest horses first), grouping (listing a pasture and the horses there, the next pasture and the horses there, etc) and filtering (only including horses by a certain sire, ones receiving a certain medication on a certain date, etc).
