How to Backup Your Horse Records
When choosing a method for your horse record keeping needs, be sure there is a reliable method of making backups. A backup is a copy of the records in case something happens to the primary set of records you use.
If you keep your records on paper, be sure you have copies of them somewhere else in case a receipt is lost, a binder of records is misplaced, etc. For electronic methods of records (such as a horse software or spreadsheets), you can make a copy of your file onto a CD or flash drive.
Be sure to keep backup copies off-site as well in the unfortunate case that a disaster occurs at your primary location. Storing backups at a trusted family or friend's location is a good idea, and possibly in a safe deposit box.
In addition, be sure to keep copies of a few of the most recent backups in case there is a problem with the current backup file.
